Abstract

Improving the performance of bitumen with various additives is a method that has been used for many years. Researchers continue to work on the production of new additives or the use of existing additives in combination. In this study, articles written in the last two years on bitumen modification and published in important journals in the relevant field were reviewed and various analyzes were made on them. Accordingly, the countries where the studies were carried out, the additives used in the studies and their frequency of use, the additives used together in composite modification and the preferred experimental methods were analyzed. Thus, it is aimed to write a review that contains up-to-date information for graduate or doctoral students and researchers who will start working in this field. As a result of the study, it was seen that the styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS) additive still has a great importance in the literature, however, the use of waste materials in bitumen modification has now become the focus of studies. In addition, it has been understood that composite modification is often preferred due to the benefits it brings, and it has been determined that the MSCR experiment carried out with the Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) device has become widespread in experimental methods.
