Abstract

In this study, microporous hydroxyapatite (HAP) granule beads were produced for biomedical applications. The pore sizes and amounts of hydroxyapatite beads were controlled. Organic polymeric beads (Polystyrene, PS) of two different diameters (180-300 µm) were used as pore forming. In addition, 6 different physical properties of HAP beads were produced, with different amounts (5, 10, and 20%) of porosity. The densities of HAP beads with different pore sizes and amounts were investigated by Archimedes method, microstructure analysis by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), phase analysis by XRD and mechanical properties by compression test.
